Off-road
Off-road running offers an escape from the noise and fumes of the towns in our region, to explore acres of woodland, riverside paths and wide-open spaces, such as the Sandstone Trail and Clwydian Hills. Ever-varying underfoot conditions also strengthen and balance muscles more used to road running. Off-road running is, however, far more than just strength training for road racing, but a branch of the sport in itself, with a variety of races all year round. Entry to the cross-country and multi-terrain leagues that the club enters is either very cheap or free, and most fell race entry fees are a fraction of those for road races; the money saved can be spent on the cakes for sale at many of the local pub- or fete-based events!
West Cheshire AC's off-road runners are involved in:
Winter cross-country leagues and championships;
Summer off-road/ trail races, including league events;
and fell-running throughout the year.
As many of our off-road runners also race on the road or track, group training is based around the Northgate Arena, County Sports Club or Stanney sessions referred to on the Road Running Training pages. Many members also run off-road in small groups at weekends.
